Healthy Soils Healthy Pastures

The HSHP two and one day courses work with farmers and graziers to create a sound understanding of the importance of improving soil health first and foremost by managing plants. Understanding how soils work is the key to future success. In a grazing system there are a number of strategies that can be utilised to improve plant health, soil health and profitability. This course will help you develop new and exciting strategies to achieve success as a rural business. The course will build a picture of agricultural best practice by connecting the linkages between soil health, vegetation health, water quality, biodiversity and landscape health. It will explain the impact of management on climate change in a rural production system and create a number of Best Practice strategies. The HSHP has a mix of good science, new innovations and hands on practical application of how graziers and farmers can develop a sustainable production system. The extended course also covers the topics of carbon management, compost teas and property planning to develop real management strategies.

The Strategic Planning course works with participants to create a sound understanding of the importance of managing the business and to develop new and exciting strategies to achieve success as a rural business, from a business perspective. The course will build a picture of best practice by starting with participant visions. It will focus on the impact of climate change on rural business and enable participants to identify a clear direction for the future. Benchmarking – A Guide to Business Success

The Benchmarking – a guide to business success course is essential training for any rural business looking for future growth. The two day course is split into 2 individual days with the first day being an introduction to benchmarking and inputting data for both cropping and livestock businesses. The second day will be a review of the first day with all businesses having their own benchmarking data to discuss and compare. This is a truly interactive course with all businesses having real direction for the future.

This is a one day forum with specialist speakers on the legal, financial and management aspects of succession planning. This forum is an excellent starting point for sourcing information on succession planning. You can also hear a range of ideas and questions in an open safe environment at a very low cost. Several hypothetical family scenarios will be used as a tool to establish different succession strategies. All family members will learn heaps.

This is an exciting new course focused on upskilling farmers and graziers in managing climate change, carbon, grass and productivity. It links the latest science and on farm practices to help participants create new strategies for pasture and soil management. As a stand‐alone course, it will assist you to make sense of the multitude of claims being made today. It’s like learning from the past, so we can make the future even better. This is a two day program that delivers both knowledge and skills.

The first day is aimed at showing participants how previous civilizations have succeeded and failed in developing sustainable agricultural practices. Then follow up with the latest science of soil microbes, mycorrhiza and then practical helps farmers and graziers to better understand the way our soils operate. The first part of this program will teach you the basics of property planning to manage climate change in the future. It will review some exciting concepts which are supported by science and practical hands on experience within Australia and overseas.

Whole Farm Planning for Phoenix

The first part of this program will teach you the basics of property planning to manage climate change. It will review some exciting concepts which are supported by good science and practical hands on experience within Australia and overseas. The second part of the program is dedicated towards developing a whole of farm plan on computer using Phoenix Farms as the base software. You will establish a clear vision for the property, clarify goals of development to manage climate change and an action plan to implement change. You will learn how to set up mapping functions using Phoenix and also have time to practice using many functions. These will include importing images, setting up layers, GPS data importing and exporting. You will also be able to import vegetation SHP information and print out maps. A special part of the program will include learning how to use a GPS (Garmin 62 or 78 series) effectively so you can import and export data. This will include the use of:
